App Performance & Quality Review
Your app feels slow, crashes too often, or reviews keep saying "laggy" — and nobody can say precisely why. We measure it, find the causes, and hand you a prioritised plan.
Users rarely file a bug that says "your cold start is 4.2 seconds." They just open the app less, rate it lower, and drift to something that feels better. Performance and stability problems are measurable, and almost always fixable in an order that pays back quickly — but only if diagnosis comes before remediation. We profile the app as it really runs, on real devices, and report what we find in terms both engineers and leadership can act on.
Root causes
the few underlying issues behind the many visible symptoms
Ranked fixes
a remediation sequence ordered by user impact per unit effort
Independent view
evidence-based findings, free of any incentive to sell a rebuild
Measured on real devices, against real budgets
We profile cold and warm startup, scroll and animation frame times, memory, network behaviour, and battery impact on representative hardware — including the mid-range Android devices and older iPhones that store dashboards quietly represent. Numbers are compared against platform budgets and, where useful, the competing apps your users also open.
- Startup, frame-time, memory, and energy profiling with Instruments and Perfetto
- Android vitals and App Store metrics analysis for what the field is reporting
- Network waterfall review — payloads, sequencing, caching, retry behaviour
- Testing on mid-range and older devices, not just the development phone
Stability and crash-health review
We analyse crash and ANR data for patterns, reproduce the leading offenders, and trace them to causes — threading, lifecycle, memory pressure, or third-party SDKs. The output distinguishes systemic problems from one-off bugs, because the fix for each is different.
- Crash and ANR clustering to find the few causes behind the many symptoms
- Threading and lifecycle review — where most intermittent mobile bugs live
- Third-party SDK audit: cost, crashes, and whether each still earns its place
- Release process review so fixes stop regressing
Code health, without the rewrite reflex
Where the engagement includes code review, we assess architecture, test coverage, and dependency health with a specific question in mind: what is making change slow and defects frequent? The recommendation is a sequence of targeted improvements ranked by payback — a rewrite only ever appears if the evidence forces it.
- Architecture and state-management review against platform best practice
- Test coverage assessed where it matters: the logic that breaks, not the boilerplate
- Dependency and build-health check — upgrade risk before it becomes urgent
- Findings ranked by user impact against engineering effort
A report you can act on Monday
The deliverable is a prioritised findings report with measurements, causes, and recommended fixes — each sized and sequenced. Your team can execute it, we can, or we can pair. The point of the audit is momentum, not a document.
Every engagement includes
- Native architecture planning before code
- Senior developer review on every pull request
- App Store & Play Store launch support
- 3 months of free post-launch support
Frequently asked questions
What do you need from us to run a review?
Ideally source access, a build we can profile, and read access to your crash reporting and analytics. A useful review is possible from the outside — profiling a store build on device — but source access lets us tie every symptom to a cause and an effort estimate.
Our app is built with a cross-platform framework. Can you still review it?
Yes. Profiling tools measure the app as the OS sees it regardless of framework, and many findings — payload sizes, image handling, over-rendering, startup work — apply universally. Where an issue is a genuine framework limit rather than an implementation issue, we say so plainly and cost out the options.
Will you also fix what you find?
If you want us to. The audit is scoped so its findings stand alone, and there is no obligation to engage us for remediation — some clients hand the report to their own team, others have us execute the top of the list. The report is written to be equally useful either way.
